Not necessarily.
Teams often divide books among members and assign “book experts,” although stronger teams usually have multiple students familiar with each title.
The reading list may include:
Fiction
Fantasy
Mystery
Adventure
Historical fiction
Graphic novels
Nonfiction
Books are selected collaboratively by participating media specialists and Battle planning team members.
The list will include 10-12 books. The booklist will be published in early October. You can find it here.
The list is designed to balance accessibility, engagement, variety, and challenge for upper elementary readers.
Schools and coaches may determine how best to support reading participation. Audiobooks may be used as a support tool if available.
That’s okay. Battle of the Books is a team activity, and teams work collaboratively to prepare.
